The week after Christmas can be a time of anticlimax, of crackers cracked and bottles emptied, the fun and excitement just a cold memory. We cannot live our whole life in a buzz of exhilaration, even religious exhilaration. Even a charismatic service, with ecstatic crowds and catchy music, can leave a morning-after feeling. As Joseph brought Mary and Jesus down to Egypt, dodging soldiers and footpads, the adoring shepherds and the jubilant angels were just a memory. In Jesus' parables, the kingdom of God advances not by fireworks and peak experiences, but by trickling increment, by quiet, organic growth like the mustard seed or the leaven in the lump. Thank you, Lord, for the high moments; but when they are past, let me be good leaven.

Sometimes that quiet, steady hand is the best way to lead. Being excited has its place, but on a day to day basis being wise with your actions and tongue is very important. If you do not have something important to say, then dont say anything. In the quiet you are able to hear the whispers of the holy spirit and our lord. Who can hear the other person in a conversation if you are constantly talking and demanding what you want, it is impossible. Ask god, do you have any messages for me today lord, and then zip it, open your ears and your mind and heart. And you may be very surprised at the response god sends to you. Do not be quick to judge others, unless that is what you want to happen to you as well. Be patient and know that god is preparing gifts for you.

A few days ago, I had someone say I love you, and then repeat it. It was such a sweet thing to hear. It made me stop and remember the moment. How amazing and powerful 3 words can be.
